Mike's Avalanche Report 5.1.2019
After some exciting weeks with a lot of snow, avalanches and burials, the situation here in Verbier has calmed down a lot. Having said this you can still see the Avalanche debris in all the intineraries, and on south to north facing slopes you can see evidence of the critical situation arising from the first two snowfalls of the season.
An avalanche caused by a skier in la Mouche was quite mild and luckily everyone involved escaped without injury. If you look closely you can still see some Fish mouths developing under Creblet and Marlenaz, which is a reminder of a still rather delicate old snow situation. Caution should still be taken when skiing at higher altitudes and on north facing descents. Above 2400 meters and on very steep north facing slopes individual skiers can trigger large avalanches. Current cold, nights are preparing the ground well for the next snowfall and avalanche report which will hopefully arrive hopefully later this week.
Have fun and ski safely. Mike
